The Cannonborough/Elliotborough establishment closed over the past weekend
Downtown bar/restaurant Warehouse (45 1/2 Spring Street, Charleston) quietly shut its doors over the past weekend and informed the public via Instagram yesterday that after almost 10 years, the business is closed. “It has been our true pleasure to be a fun part of your lives the last decade,” the post reads, “End of an Era!” 3pl Warehouse
The caption also confirms that the property already has new buyers. Currently, that area of downtown Charleston is dominated by party bar Uptown Social and other clubstaurants, so one could imagine another similar establishment going into the 3,000-square-foot space.
Warehouse co-owners James Groetzinger and Joey Rinaldi opened their Cannonborough/Elliotborough bar in late June 2013. They were part of the “Spring Street boom,” at a time when many new businesses were landing in the neighborhood. It became a jack-of-all-trades sort of establishment, known for happy hour deals and innovative multi-course meals, as well as rambunctious evenings of foosball and DJs.
Over the years, the space has led many lives — starting with chef Eva Keilty at the helm serving fancy pub food. At the time, she called it “... if Moe’s Crosstown and Two Boroughs Larder had a baby it would be Warehouse. Bar food with a top hat and a monocle.” The restaurant would go on to other notable chefs, like Top Chef alum Emily Hahn and, most recently, tasting menu talents Zach Woody and Brandon Andrist. In between, it was a “progressive Americana” spot and a ramen joint.
